Marwan Krunz
Dr. Krunz has a joint appointment as a professor of computer science and is an affiliated member of the UA Cancer Center. He is a Regents Professor in the ECE Department at the University of Arizona. He holds the Kenneth VonBehren Endowed Professorship in the same department, where he also directs the Broadband Wireless Access and Applications Center (BWAC), an NSF Industry/University Cooperative Research Center (I/UCRC) that includes four universities and 14 affiliates from industry and national labs. Dr. Krunz has a joint appointment as a professor of computer science and is an affiliated member of the UA Cancer Center. Previously, he served as the UA site director for “Connection One”, an NSF IUCRC that focuses on wireless communication circuits and systems. In 2010, Dr. Krunz was a Visiting Chair of Excellence at the University of Carlos III de Madrid. He held numerous other visiting research positions at University Technology Sydney (Australia), INRIA-Sophia Antipolis (France), HP Labs, University of Paris VI, University of Paris V, University of Jordan, and US West Advanced Technologies. Dr. Krunz's research interests are in wireless communications, networking, and security with emphasis on AI and machine learning based resource management, dynamic spectrum sharing, MIMO, and Physical-layer vulnerabilities in LTE, 5G, and Wi-Fi systems. He has published more than 330 journal articles and peer-reviewed conference papers on these and related topics, and is a co-inventor on 10 issued US patents (see Publications page for details). He is an IEEE Fellow, an Arizona Engineering Faculty Fellow (2011-2014), and an IEEE Communications Society Distinguished Lecturer (2013 and 2014). He was the recipient of the 2012 IEEE TCCC Outstanding Service Award. He received the NSF CAREER award in 1998. He served as the Editor-in-Chief for the IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing (2017-2020), and was on the editorial boards for the IEEE Transactions on Cognitive Communications and Networks, IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking, IEEE TMC, IEEE Transactions on Network and Service Management, Computer Communications Journal, and IEEE Communications Interactive Magazine. He is the general co-chair for WiOpt 2023, and was the general vice-chair for WiOpt’16 and general co-chair for WiSec’12. He was the TPC chair for WCNC’16 (Networking Track), INFOCOM'04, SECON'05, WoWMoM'06, and Hot Interconnects 9, among others. He has served on the steering and advisory committees of numerous conferences and on the panels of several funding agencies. He was a keynote speaker, an invited panelist, and a tutorial presenter at numerous international conferences. He served as the chief scientist and chief technologist for two startup companies that focus on next-generation wireless systems and devices.
